Address Me as Professor, Not Doctor – Education Minister Suwaiba Ahmad

The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’idu Ahmad, has stated that she expects to be addressed by her academic rank, saying she will not respond if referred to as “Dr.”

Speaking during an engagement with education stakeholders, the minister said her preference is to be called “Professor” to reflect her position as a professor of Science Education.

“If you address me as a Dr. I’ll not answer because I’m professor,” she declared.

The minister, who holds a PhD in Science Education and was promoted to professor by Bayero University, Kano in December 2024, said the distinction matters in academic settings.
