Bayelsa Medical University (BMU), Yenagoa, has announced a three-day capacity building workshop aimed at strengthening research competence, promoting collaborative grant acquisition, and advancing sustainable academic development within the institution.

The workshop, themed "Driving Innovation at BMU: Collaborative Grantsmanship for Sustainable Capacity Building," is being organised by the Directorate of Research and Development as part of efforts to enhance research productivity and expand opportunities for funding and academic collaboration.

According to the organisers, the programme will provide a platform for researchers, academics, and members of the university community to develop practical skills in grant writing, research collaboration, mentorship, and capacity development. The initiative is also expected to foster stronger research networks and improve the university's competitiveness in attracting local and international research grants.

The workshop will hold from July 1 to July 3, 2026, at the BMU Main Auditorium, with activities scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. daily.

Participants are expected to engage in sessions focused on collaborative grantsmanship, sustainable research development, mentorship strategies, and innovative approaches to strengthening institutional research capacity.

The Directorate of Research and Development stated that the programme aligns with the university's commitment to promoting a vibrant research culture and equipping staff and researchers with the tools required to compete effectively in the global research environment.

The workshop will be accessible both physically and virtually, allowing participants to join through an online platform. Registration has been opened to members of the university community ahead of the commencement date.
