Bayero University Kano Dismisses Defamatory Allegations Against Former Dean; Demands Retraction
The Management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has issued a formal disclaimer regarding a viral social media post containing allegations of corruption against the former Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Shamsuddeen Umar.
The statement, released by the University’s Digital Media Unit, identified the author of the post as Mr. Abdulrahman Abdulateef (popularly known as MC Almajiri), a graduate of the Department of Geology.
The University categorically dismissed the claims as false, baseless, and malicious, affirming that Professor Umar served his tenure with "distinction, integrity, and professionalism." The Management highlighted that the Professor’s tenure was extended multiple times specifically due to his exceptional performance and dedication to student welfare.
Key points from the University’s response:
Total Dissociation: BUK officially dissociates itself from the claims and maintains there is no record of misconduct or financial impropriety against the former Dean.
Protection of Integrity: The institution views the post as a calculated attempt at character assassination aimed at tarnishing the reputation of both the Professor and the University.
Legal Warning: The University has demanded an immediate retraction of the defamatory post and a formal public apology from Mr. Abdulateef.
The Management warned that failure to comply with the demand for an apology would result in legal action to protect the University's institutional integrity. The statement reminded all stakeholders that BUK degrees are awarded based on both "character and learning," and acts that undermine these values will not be condoned.
