BioRTC and UMTH Explore Research and Training Collaboration
A delegation from the Biomedical Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), led by its Director, Professor Mahmoud Bukar Maina, visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) at the invitation of its Acting Chief Medical Director to discuss opportunities for institutional collaboration.
The discussions focused on bringing together UMTH's extensive clinical experience, expertise in disease management and healthcare delivery with BioRTC's research capabilities, spanning population-based studies, clinical research and molecular investigations.
The meeting was very productive, with several areas of potential collaboration identified, including joint research through the UMTH Neuroscience and Stroke Centre, capacity building, scientific training, and joint applications for competitive research grants.

Importantly, the meeting concluded with plans to establish a joint collaboration committee to take these discussions forward, beginning with practical activities that can be implemented in the short term while developing longer-term research partnerships.
BioRTC said it looks forward to building on this engagement and combining complementary strengths to advance biomedical research, training and healthcare in the region.
