The Dress Code Committee of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has issued a formal notice reminding students to strictly adhere to the University’s Dress Code Policy across all campuses.
According to the committee, recent observations indicate that some students have been flouting approved dress standards within lecture halls, laboratories, theatres, and examination venues. Proper attire is mandatory and forms an integral part of university regulations.
The notice specifies clothing deemed inappropriate, including:

- Short, revealing, transparent, or tight-fitting outfits
- Shorts (outside sporting activities) and ripped or holey jeans
- Singlets, boxers, sleeveless tops, or dresses hindering laboratory coat use
- Skirts above the knee, cross-dressing, or attire with obscene inscriptions
- Unbuttoned tops exposing the chest, jackboots (unless protective), sunglasses/goggles in lectures without medical reasons
- Male students: dreadlocks, earrings, plaited/weaved hair, tattoos
- Female students: multicoloured hairstyles
The committee clarified that these rules apply throughout the campus, except within the privacy of hostel rooms, and students must also follow any additional dress codes set by faculties, departments, or professional bodies.
BUK students are urged to comply fully to maintain decorum and uphold the values of the University.
