COOU Receives NUC Approval for 16 New Academic Programmes, VC Announces at 35th Inaugural Lecture

The announcement was made on Thursday, September 24, 2026, during the university's 35th Inaugural Lecture held at the ETF Auditorium, where the Vice-Chancellor addressed the gathering virtually.
Recall that in the middle of last month, the NUC deployed a team to the university to verify the available infrastructure, facilities and other resources required for the commencement of academic activities in the 16 programmes.
The resource verification exercise was a major requirement for securing approval for the programmes and subsequently admitting students into them.
Confirming the development, Prof. Omenugha disclosed that the 16 programmes had now received the necessary approval from the NUC, paving the way for the university to commence admissions.
The Vice-Chancellor's trip to Abuja, which coincided with the date of the Inaugural Lecture, was also connected to the conclusion of processes surrounding the approval of the programmes, hence her physical absence from the event.
She further assured that the university would, without unnecessary delay, commence the process of admitting students into the newly approved programmes.
The approved programmes are:

- B.Sc. Data Science
- B.Sc. Public Health
- B.Sc. Project Management
- B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management

- B.Sc. Taxation
- B.Sc. Procurement
- B.Sc. Information Technology
- B.EHS. Environmental Health Sciences
- O.D. Optometry
- D.PT. Physiotherapy
The announcement lists 15 programme titles, although the report states that 16 programmes were approved.
The development marks another addition to the academic offerings of the university, with the approved programmes expected to provide prospective students with more opportunities to pursue their desired fields of study at COOU.
