Dr. Hillary Ibegbulem Commissions UNIDEL Law Clinic

On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, Dr. Hillary Ibegbulem, Private Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, officially commissioned the Law Clinic at the Owa Oyibu campus of the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL).

On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, Dr. Hillary Ibegbulem, Private Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, officially commissioned the Law Clinic at the Owa Oyibu campus of the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL).

Dr. Ibegbulem recalled his pledge during the Law Dinner Ceremony on 13th June 2025 to establish a clinic for law students as a means of contributing to the growth of the Faculty of Law. During the commissioning, he encouraged students to remain focused and diligent, and commended Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stella Chiemeke and Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Cecil Okunbor, for providing space for the project.

As part of the ceremony, Dr. Ibegbulem, a law student at Base University, Abuja, unveiled the Lady Justitia statue, symbolizing justice, fairness, and moral integrity, earning admiration from the Dean, faculty staff, and students.

The event was attended by traditional leaders, including the Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor, represented by the Inne of Owa Kingdom, Chief Chucks Okwuokenye.

In collaboration with the Centre for Justice Education and Development (CJED), the Hillary Ibegbulem Foundation had earlier conducted a two-day training on Clinical Legal Education and Establishment of the UNIDEL Law Clinic.

In his address, Prof. Okunbor described Dr. Ibegbulem’s donation of the Law Clinic and the emblematic statue as more than philanthropy—calling it an investment in the future of students, the institution, and the community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chiemeke, represented by Dr. Emeka Chigwe, highlighted the significance of the training, noting it strengthened practical legal education, enhanced justice delivery, and equipped law students with real-world advocacy skills. She commended Dr. Ibegbulem for his dedication to justice, education, and community development.

  • Professional Ethics and Client Confidentiality in a Clinic Setting
  • Building Innovative Clinical Content to Make Nigerian Law Graduates Practice-Ready

Resource persons included Kenechukwu Agwu, Esq., Dr. Emike Jessica Imuekemhe, and Dr. Dayo Ashonibare.

The commissioning represents a major milestone in enhancing experiential legal education at UNIDEL.
