EKSU Alumni Elevated to Prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rank

Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has celebrated the elevation of two of its distinguished alumni to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the highest professional distinction for legal practitioners in the country.

The new SAN-designates are Chief Gbenga Adaramola, a member of the University's 1997 graduating class, and Jonathan Akintola Makinde of the 2012 graduating class.

The duo was among 68 legal practitioners approved for conferment of the prestigious rank by the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee (LPPC) during its 174th Plenary Session held on July 23, 2026. Chief Adaramola was listed as serial number 21, while Makinde appeared as serial number 66 on the official list released by the LPPC.

The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is reserved for legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction in legal practice, advocacy, and outstanding contributions to the development of jurisprudence in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele, congratulated the two alumni, describing their elevation as a proud moment for the University and further evidence of the quality of graduates it continues to produce.

Prof. Ayodele said the recognition reflects the University's enduring commitment to excellence, professionalism, and integrity, expressing confidence that the new Senior Advocates of Nigeria would continue to uphold the highest standards of the legal profession while serving as worthy ambassadors of their alma mater.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his continued support, visionary leadership, and strategic investments, which he said have strengthened the University's capacity to deliver quality teaching, research, innovation, and community service.

He reaffirmed EKSU's commitment to producing graduates who excel in their respective professions and make meaningful contributions to national development.

The conferment of the SAN rank will culminate in an official swearing-in ceremony scheduled for October 12, 2026, following the successful completion of the mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme stipulated by the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee.

The University said the elevation of Chief Gbenga Adaramola and Jonathan Akintola Makinde further reinforces EKSU's growing reputation for producing accomplished professionals who continue to distinguish themselves in the legal profession and other fields within and outside Nigeria.
