The Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Prof. Victor Olawale Adetimirin, has challenged students of the Faculty of Engineering to go beyond the classroom and apply their knowledge to solving real-world challenges.
Prof. Adetimirin gave the charge on Monday, 28th September 2026, while commissioning a bus stop designed and constructed by 100-level students as part of their 2025/2026 Students’ Work Experience Programme, SWEP.
The commissioning featured an exhibition of student projects, including a CCTV installation model, AC-powered extension boxes, classroom chairs, and the production and fabrication of bolts, nuts and shafts. The projects showcased creativity, technical skills and the ability to translate engineering concepts into functional solutions.
Prof. Adetimirin commended the students for their creativity and innovation, urging them to continue developing solutions that meet the needs of the University and society.

He noted that exposing students to project-based activities from the early stages of their academic journey helps build confidence, sharpen technical abilities and develop a problem-solving mindset.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended staff of the Faculty of Engineering for their dedication, guidance and commitment to mentoring the students throughout the process.
He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to creating opportunities for students to develop solutions that address real-world challenges, expressing confidence that with continued guidance and mentorship, the students will grow into competent and innovative engineers capable of contributing meaningfully to the development of the University, Edo State and the nation.
