IBBUL Secures NUC Approval for 13 New Academic Programmes

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence 13 new academic programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved programmes are:

• B.Sc. Community Health
• B.N.Sc. Nursing
• B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry
• B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies
• B.Sc. Library and Information Science
• B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science
• B.Sc. Applied Geophysics
• B.Sc. Physics with Electronics
• B.Sc. Cyber Security
• B.A. Nupe
• B.Sc. Botany
• B.Sc. Zoology
• M.Sc. and Ph.D. Food Science and Technology

The approval was communicated in a letter dated September 11, 2026, from the National Universities Commission and signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Gerei. The letter, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, conveyed the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu’s congratulations to the university.

The commission also urged the university to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and effective implementation of the approved programmes.

The new programmes are expected to expand IBBU’s academic offerings, particularly in emerging and specialised fields, while creating additional opportunities for students seeking university education in these areas.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, described the approval as an important step towards expanding access to university education and strengthening the institution’s capacity to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing world.

He congratulated members of the university community and expressed appreciation to the Visitor, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, for his continued support for the institution, describing the progress recorded so far as encouraging.

Professor Sulaiman also appreciated the support and encouragement received from the Honourable Commissioners and staff of the Ministries of Tertiary Education, Finance, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing the required human and material resources to ensure the successful implementation of the newly approved programmes in accordance with NUC standards.

He also encouraged prospective applicants to remain confident in the university as preparations continue towards a smooth admission process for the new programmes.
