Federal University Gusau Student Dies in Captivity After Four Months

A 21-year-old student of the Federal University Gusau, Zarah Abubakar Shehu, has tragically died in captivity four months after being abducted by armed bandits in Zamfara State. Zarah was taken from her home in Gusau on November 3, 2024, along with her two siblings.

 

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦35 million, which was later negotiated down to ₦10 million. Despite the ransom payment, the kidnappers refused to release Zarah, instead demanding additional items, including motorcycles and engine oil. After months of efforts to meet the demands, the items were finally secured, but tragically, the kidnappers revealed that Zarah had already died and was buried two days earlier.

Zarah's death is a devastating loss for her family, particularly her mother, who has lost her only daughter. This incident highlights the growing concern of banditry and kidnapping in Zamfara State, which has been plagued by rural banditry and violence in recent years .
