From Bayero University Kano Best Graduating Student to a U.S. Professor: The Incredible Journey of Professor Farooq Kperogi

Professor Farooq Kperogi was born in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, Around 1973. He completed his primary and secondary education before gaining admission to Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 1993, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mass Communication in 1997. He later obtained a Master’s degree from the University of "Louisiana" at Lafayette (USA), and subsequently earned a Ph.D. from "Georgia" State University, United States of America in 2011 (Mass Communication).

During his time at Bayero University, Kano, (BUK) Professor Kperogi graduated as the best student in the Department of Mass Communication in 1997, an achievement that earned him the prestigious "NTA" Prize in The University.

After completing his studies at BUK, he began his professional career as an Editor and reporter with Nigerian media organizations, including Daily Trust, where he worked between 2000 and 2002. 

He later transitioned into academia, teaching journalism and mass communication at Kaduna Polytechnic. He subsequently served as a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU Zaria) from 2002 to 2004.

Professor Kperogi later became a full professor of journalism at "Kennesaw" State University in the United States.

He has authored several notable books, including:

1-Glocal English (2015)

2-Nigeria’s Digital Diaspora (2020), which won an international award, Among others.

In addition, Farooq Kperogi is best known as a powerful Nigerian columnist, media scholar, expert in English usage, and political commentary.

He is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished Nigerian scholars who attained professorship abroad.

He currently resides in the United States with his wife and four children.
