FUGA VC Warns Against Livestock Encroachment, Security Breaches

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua (FUGA), Yobe State, Prof. Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has warned the Fulani community residing on university land to keep their livestock away from the institution's farmlands, plantations and facilities.

Geidam gave the warning when he received a delegation of the community, led by the Lamido of Garin Lamido, Lamido Ahmadu, on a courtesy visit to his office.

The Vice-Chancellor said roaming livestock had been causing damage to farmlands, plantations and other university property, while their movement around lecture areas and buildings was also creating sanitation concerns.

He directed the community to ensure that their animals were properly controlled, warning that continued encroachment and destruction of university property could force the management to take appropriate measures.

Geidam also urged community elders to caution their children against acts capable of compromising the security of the university. He specifically warned against conspiring with persons involved in stealing university property or providing them with shelter, information or other forms of cover.

He assured the community of the university's commitment to peaceful coexistence, while urging them to cooperate with the institution in protecting its land and property.

Earlier, Lamido Ahmadu apologised for the concerns raised and expressed the community's readiness to cooperate with the university, while appealing for consideration of its members in employment opportunities and admission to study at FUGA.

Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda; the University Librarian and Chairman of the FUGA Security Committee, Dr. Adam Gambo Saleh; the Bursar, Mallam Muhammad Ahmad Ali; and the Acting Chief Security Officer, DSP Garba Shuaibu (Rtd.).
