FUL Mourns Former University Librarian, Dr. Mbashir Abdulateef Lanre

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the death of Dr. Mbashir Abdulateef Lanre, a former Librarian of the Federal University Lokoja, who passed away in the early hours of today.

Until his death, Dr. Lanre was the Librarian of Kogi State University, Kabba, where he continued to make significant contributions to the development of library and information services, scholarship and the advancement of the university system.

In a condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor described the deceased as a distinguished librarian, committed university administrator, scholar and gentleman whose professional contributions and service to the advancement of knowledge would remain memorable to those who had the privilege of working with him.

Professor Ibileye noted with particular sadness that Dr. Lanre's passing was not only a profound loss to his immediate family, colleagues and the Kogi State University, Kabba community, but also a painful loss to the wider university community and the library profession.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Lanre served Federal University Lokoja with dedication and contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of the University's library system during his tenure as University Librarian.

Professor Ibileye said:

“The death of Dr. Mbashir Abdulateef Lanre is deeply painful and saddening. He was a valued member of the Federal University Lokoja family, and his contributions to the development of our University, particularly in the area of library and information services, will not be forgotten.

“His transition is a great loss to his family, colleagues, the Kogi State University, Kabba community, Federal University Lokoja, and the entire library and information science profession. At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who mourn this painful loss.

“On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff and students of Federal University Lokoja, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Vice-Chancellor and entire University community of Kogi State University, Kabba. May God grant everyone he left behind the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may He grant the departed eternal rest.”

The Vice-Chancellor further prayed for comfort, strength and divine consolation for the deceased's family, friends, colleagues and professional associates, particularly at this difficult period.

Federal University Lokoja joins the Kogi State University, Kabba community, the library and information science profession and all mourners in honouring the memory of Dr. Mbashir Abdulateef Lanre and in praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
