FULafia Researchers Secure ₦113 Million TETFund Grant for Healthcare, Social Development Studies

Three research teams at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have secured a total of ₦113 million in funding under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF) to undertake research in healthcare and social development.

Three research teams at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have secured a total of ₦113 million in funding under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF) to undertake research in healthcare and social development.

The grant beneficiaries are research teams led by Professor Ibrahim Khalil Adam, Professor Mustapha Umar Imam and Dr. Usman Ibrahim.

The projects will focus on:

  • Breast cancer.
  • Development of vaccines for Dengue fever.
  • The impact of community-based interventions on widows and elderly persons.

Presenting the award letters on behalf of TETFund, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, congratulated the researchers for securing the competitive grants.

He described the achievement as historic, noting that it is the first time the university has secured funding for three National Research Fund proposals simultaneously.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, research grants play a critical role in advancing knowledge, strengthening institutional capacity and providing practical training and mentorship for junior academics and postgraduate students.

Professor Kida also urged the research teams to ensure prudent management of the funds while encouraging other academics within the university to actively pursue competitive research grants.
