FUNAAB Civil Engineering Alumni Donate 40 Chairs Worth ₦2 Million to College
The 2011/2012 Civil Engineering graduating set of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has donated 40 two-seater chairs valued at ₦2 million to the university’s College of Engineering (COLENG) to improve students’ learning environment.

The donation was presented as part of the alumni’s efforts to give back to their alma mater and support the welfare of current students.
Presenting the items on behalf of the graduating set, Engineer Sunday Adeyemo said the initiative was conceived as a practical way of improving the learning environment and contributing to the development of the university.
Adeyemo explained that his visit to FUNAAB the previous year had raised concerns about the condition of the space, prompting discussions among members of his graduating set on how they could make a meaningful contribution.
He disclosed that the alumni subsequently raised ₦2 million to purchase the chairs, adding that the gesture was also intended to appreciate the lecturers who had provided them with the education, knowledge and professional foundation that shaped their careers.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, the Head of the Quality Control and Assurance Unit, Professor Saliu Amolegbe, commended the alumni for their intervention.

Amolegbe described the donation as a thoughtful initiative that could serve as a model for other generations of FUNAAB graduates. He encouraged future alumni groups to identify areas where they could contribute meaningfully to the university’s development.
The Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Adedayo Badejo, also praised the 2011/2012 graduating set for its commitment to the college.
He described the donation as a valuable contribution towards creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, expressing optimism that the initiative would continue and inspire similar efforts in the future.
Similarly, the Acting Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Igba Tobit, expressed appreciation to the alumni for taking practical steps to support students and improve facilities within the college.

The event concluded with the formal handover of the 40 chairs to the College of Engineering, reinforcing the importance of alumni involvement in institutional development and student welfare.
