FUNAAB Librarian Dr. Fauziyah Adenekan Appointed to Head Owolabi University Library

A Librarian at the Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Dr. Fauziyah Adenekan, has been appointed Head of Library, Owolabi University, Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun State.

Dr. Adenekan, an experienced Librarian and Information Scientist, began her career at the Nimbe Adedipe Library in 2017 as Assistant Systems Librarian in the Automation Department. She subsequently served in the e-Library Section, Cataloguing Department, Wole Soyinka Library and the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) Library, before heading the Automation Department from September 2025 to September 2026. Her cross-unit experience has given her broad expertise in academic librarianship, particularly library automation.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Institute of Data Processing Management of Nigeria, both obtained in 2008. She earned a Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan in 2014, followed by a Master of Philosophy and a PhD in ICT in Information Resources Management from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, in 2023 and 2025 respectively.

A Certified Librarian with the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), registered in 2016, Dr. Adenekan is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Library Association, Nigeria Computer Society, Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Nigerian Women in Agricultural Research for Development, African Library and Information Associations and Institutions, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, Lagos Studies Association, Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation, Wikimedia Nigeria User Group and Royal Statistical Society Nigeria Local Group. In 2020, she was inducted into the League of Computer Scientists in Nigeria.

At FUNAAB, she has contributed to teaching, research and academic development through courses such as GNS 203: Use of Library, LIS 801: Foundation of Library and Information Studies and LIS 804: Theory and Organisation of Knowledge. She also co-supervises Master's projects and has served as Secretary of the Academic Librarians, FUNAAB Chapter, and the Association of Women Librarians of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter.

Her research interests include ICT in Library and Information Science, information user studies, Sustainable Development Goals, gender and cultural diversity, with 17 publications in reputable journals. She received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Nigerian Library Association, Ogun State Chapter, for teamwork and commitment to the successful hosting of its first Evidence-Based Virtual Workshop in 2021 themed Remote Information Services Delivery During and Post-COVID.

Congratulating Dr. Adenekan, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, described the appointment as significant recognition of her professional competence, dedication and contributions to Library and Information Science. He said her elevation is a source of pride to FUNAAB and reflects the quality of professionals nurtured by the University, expressing confidence that she would bring commitment, expertise and innovation to her new role.
