FUOYE Staff School Holds Capacity-Building Seminar for Teachers

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti Staff School has held a capacity-building seminar to equip teachers with effective teaching strategies and strengthen meaningful classroom engagement.

The seminar, held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the ICT Conference Room, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, was themed “Equipping Educators for Excellence: Effective Teaching Practice and Meaningful Classroom Engagement,” with Princess Ngozi Adaku Tonny Dogun, PhD, as guest speaker.

Her presentation focused on practical approaches to effective teaching, promoting student participation, meaningful classroom engagement, and supporting learners’ emotional and psychological well-being. She also introduced participants to the 5-Star Formula for dynamic classroom delivery, with emphasis on identifying barriers to effective teaching and learning, improving student participation and developing practical action plans for improved teaching practice.

In his opening remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. M. O. Binuomote, welcomed the initiative and emphasised the importance of continuous professional development for educators. He noted that teachers play a central role in shaping learners’ academic development and overall experience, stressing the need for educators to continually improve their knowledge, teaching methods and classroom practices in response to changing educational demands.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua O. Ogunwole, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening staff capacity and promoting excellence in teaching and learning. He noted that effective education depends not only on curriculum and infrastructure but also on the quality, preparedness and commitment of educators, and encouraged teachers to apply the lessons gained to enhance classroom delivery.

The seminar featured interactive lectures, practical demonstrations, role-play sessions and resource materials designed to support immediate application in the classroom. It brought together FUOYE Staff School teachers, with expected outcomes including improved student engagement, greater awareness of trauma-sensitive practices and development of measurable approaches for monitoring teaching effectiveness.
