Gombe State University (GSU) was represented by its Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, at a special dinner hosted by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Richard Montgomery, on 29th December 2024.

Gombe State University (GSU) was represented by its Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, at an exclusive dinner hosted by His Excellency Mr. Richard Montgomery, the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Nigeria. The event, held on Friday, 29th December 2024, brought together key academic stakeholders from various institutions to explore opportunities for partnerships, grants, and scholarships.

During the dinner, Professor Yauta engaged in productive discussions aimed at strengthening GSU’s international academic linkages. His Excellency, Mr. Montgomery, commended GSU’s potential as a promising global academic partner, emphasizing the importance of fostering international collaborations in higher education.

As a major outcome of the discussions, four prestigious UK universities expressed interest in forming partnerships with GSU. These institutions include the University of St. Andrews, Solent University, Southampton, the University of Stirling, Scotland, and Lancaster University. Additionally, three leading African universities—the University of Kigali in Rwanda, the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and the University of Cape Town in South Africa—also indicated interest in collaborating with GSU.

The proposed partnerships are expected to enhance GSU’s academic offerings through student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, scholarships, and capacity-building programs. These collaborations are set to significantly raise GSU’s academic profile on the global stage.

Professor Yauta expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Montgomery for providing the opportunity to engage with esteemed institutions worldwide. He reiterated GSU’s commitment to leveraging these partnerships to foster academic excellence and contribute to the global body of knowledge.
