Gombe State University Holds Historic First Town Hall Meeting With Student Leaders

Gombe State University has held its first-ever Town Hall Meeting between the University Management and student leaders, marking a significant milestone under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta.

The meeting was held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Hall and brought together members of the University Management and representatives of student unions, associations and leadership structures across the University.

In attendance were the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta; Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Danladi M. Umar; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Rasheed Abdulganiy; University Librarian; Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Isaac O. Ediba; Director of Academic Planning; University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hadu Ligari, and members of the Public Relations Unit, alongside other members of the University community.

The student body was represented by the Students' Representative Council (SRC), led by the SRC President, Amb. Abubakar Aminu Muhammad Alaa, alongside GOSSA, Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS), MSSN, Faculty and Departmental Presidents, and leaders of various student associations.

The programme commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an introduction by the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hadu Ligari, self-introduction by student leaders and a welcome address by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Isaac O. Ediba.

In his address, Professor Yauta emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, protection and proper maintenance of University facilities, particularly the newly renovated hostels, cleanliness and care for the environment, and a drug-free University community.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the University Senate has approved the implementation of the Drug Integrity Test (DIT) for students, while emphasizing the need to tackle examination malpractice and other social vices.

On academics, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing a conducive academic environment equipped with modern facilities, qualified lecturers and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

The meeting thereafter provided student leaders with an opportunity to present their concerns, suggestions and recommendations on issues affecting the University.

The SRC President, Amb. Abubakar Aminu Muhammad Alaa, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for organizing the historic Town Hall Meeting, and raised concerns about campus security and the relationship between students and security personnel.

He called for stronger mutual respect, communication and cooperation between students and security personnel, as well as regular training and capacity building for University security personnel to enhance professionalism and effective security management.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued dialogue, mutual responsibility and collaboration between University Management and student leadership towards a safer, cleaner, peaceful and academically conducive Gombe State University.
