According to reports, Dan Auta's actions were driven by frustration stemming from his struggles to find employment after graduating.

The incident reportedly followed Dan Auta's disappointment upon seeing singer Rarara awarded a Doctorate of Honour, which further exacerbated his feelings of disillusionment with the value of his own degree. In a symbolic act of protest, Dan Auta decided to burn his degree certificate, stating that he would rather return to business.
