IAUE Ranks Seventh in Staff Google Scholar Profile Submission in 2026 University Rankings; Appreciates Governor Fubara for ASUU Agreement Implementation as Senate Expels Student Over Damaging Content

IAUE Ranks Seventh in Staff Google Scholar Profile Submission

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, has been ranked seventh in Staff Google Scholar Profile Submission by institutions in the 2026 Ranking of Universities.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Okechuku Onuchuku, announced this during Senate meeting held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Postgraduate Hall, lauding academic staff whose articles and publications were cited on Google Scholar, resulting in the progress report. He thanked staff for giving the University needed visibility and urged them to sustain tempo

Prof. Onuchuku also expressed appreciation to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for approving implementation of the ASUU agreement which culminated in new salary structure received by staff.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the IAUE ASUU Chairman, Prof. Obinna Prince Ikechi, for putting machinery in place for implementation and Bursary staff who worked to ensure its fruition.

In another development, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved five new programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They are Special Needs Education, Human Kinetics Sports Management, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Cyber Security.

It will be recalled that NUC had on September 8, 2026, visited the University to ascertain readiness of the five programmes. The Chairman of Senate and Vice-Chancellor hinted that plans are underway to appoint qualified academic staff to head the new departments.

Meanwhile, Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation. The expulsion is to serve as deterrent to others.

It will be recalled that the student had, in an interview that went viral, claimed her project topic was "Citizenship" when there is no such topic in the Department, and claimed her supervisor wrote the project for her.

Graduating results for 2024/2025 academic session from IAUE Faculties and those from affiliate institutions including Peaceland University, Enugu and College of Education, Warri, as presented by Postgraduate School by Prof. Helen Okujagu, were approved by Senate.

Senate also approved 2026/2027 academic calendar as presented by Director of Academic Planning Unit, Prof. Joseph Kinanee. Monday, November 9, 2026, is resumption date for returning students, while registration for Year One students is ongoing and will continue fully by Monday, November 16. Lectures will commence for returning students on November 23, and for fresh students on November 30.

Christmas break will commence on Friday, December 18, while academic activities will resume on Monday, January 4, 2027.
