IBB University Lapai Crowned Champions of Maiden Bago Collegiate Games; Awarded 2027 Hosting Rights

Following a week of intense athletic competition, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) has emerged as the overall winner of the maiden Bago Intercollegiate Sports Festival. In recognition of their stellar performance and institutional capacity, the university has been officially named the host for the second edition of the games in 2027.

According to statistics released by the Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission, Alhaji Danjuma Abdul Masu, IBBUL outclassed 10 other participating institutions to secure the top spot. The university’s contingent finished with an impressive haul of 35 medals:

Gold: 15

Silver: 10

Bronze: 10

The Vice-Chancellor of IBBUL credited the victory to discipline and rigorous preparation. Addressing the university community, he emphasized that the win is merely the starting point for a larger sporting ambition. "We are winners, so we are not going to quit. We are taking the challenge, and we are going to make the second edition the best ever," the Vice-Chancellor declared, pledging to address technical gaps and begin immediate preparations for the 2027 event.

The Director of Sports, Professor Aliyu Muhammad, lauded the athletes not only for their physical prowess but for their exemplary conduct. "Our students were well-behaved, disciplined, and conducted themselves properly throughout the games," he noted.

In appreciation of their historic feat, the Vice-Chancellor has announced a special celebratory dinner for the contingent to boost morale and reinforce the university’s commitment to investing in sports facilities and talent development.

The Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his administration’s commitment to youth and sports development, describing the seven-day festival as a masterclass in excellence, hard work, and courage.
