The Director of Sports at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Professor Aliyu Mohammed, has officially charged the university’s athletes to act as worthy ambassadors and secure top honours at the inaugural Intercollegiate Bago Games.
Addressing the contingent upon their arrival at the host institution, Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Professor Mohammed emphasized that the competition is a critical stepping stone for student-athletes eyeing professional sports careers.
The Director described the Bago Games as a strategic arena for talent discovery, noting that high-performing students could be scouted for the Niger State and Nigerian national teams.
“This is a valuable opportunity to showcase your talents. It also serves as a vital part of our intensive preparations for the upcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Pre-NUGA qualifiers,” Professor Mohammed stated. He highlighted that such events are essential for building teamwork, leadership, and mental toughness.
Amidst the competitive atmosphere, the university leadership stressed a "safety-first" approach. Professor Mohammed outlined strict security protocols for the athletes:
Vigilance: Athletes were advised to avoid solo movement and remain security-conscious within the host city.
Communication: Ensuring mobile devices are constantly charged for emergency contact.
Welfare: The university management confirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been made for the contingent's comfort and logistics.
Professor Mohammed expressed gratitude to the IBBUL Management for its sustained investment in sports infrastructure, which has significantly elevated the institution's athletic standards. He assured the university community that the team is determined to return with medals that reflect the institution's growing prominence in collegiate sports.
