KWASU Muslim Community Hosts 3rd Ramadan Lecture with a focus on Polygyny
Muslims have been urged to approach the issue of polygyny with justice, responsibility, and a proper understanding of Islamic teachings.
The guest lecturer, Barrister Al Imam Ibraheem Nurudeen Az-zubair who gave the charge in his lecture titled “Polygyny in Islam: Scriptural Texts, Social Justice" on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the KWASU Contact Office, Zango Area, Ilorin, explained that although the issue of polygyny often generates controversy in society, Islam provides clear guidance on the subject.
Barrister Az-zubair stressed the importance of communication between couples, charging Muslim women to shun popular and negative perceptions about polygyny as the practice has more advantages for individuals and the society.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, emphasised the importance of using the Ramadan period to deepen spiritual consciousness, strengthen unity among members of the university community, and promote values of tolerance, mutual respect, and responsible conduct in society.
Professor Jimoh noted that discussions on important social and religious issues, such as polygyny, should always be approached with knowledge, fairness, and adherence to Islamic principles for the benefits to be realised.
He commended the KWASU Muslim Community Association for organising the lecture, charging them to regularly organise intellectual and spiritually enriching programmes that contribute positively to moral development and peaceful coexistence of members within the university and the wider society.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the KWASU Muslim Community Association, Dr. Shehu Usman Adam appreciated members of the community for their continued support and expressed optimism that the proposed KWASU Central Mosque project would soon become a reality.
