LASUCOM Undertakes Mock NUC Accreditation Exercise for Seven Academic Programmes

The Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM, has hosted the Vice-Chancellor's Standing Committee on Accreditation and Resource Assessment for a mock accreditation exercise in preparation for the forthcoming National Universities Commission, NUC, accreditation of seven academic programmes.

The exercise was held on Friday, 17th July 2026, as part of efforts to ensure sustained academic excellence and readiness.

The accreditation team was led by Professor Olagunju of the Faculty of Law. The exercise was designed to evaluate the College's preparedness and identify areas requiring further improvement ahead of the official NUC accreditation.

The team was received by the Deputy Provost, Professor Sunday Soyemi, who alongside the Head of the LASUCOM Academic Planning Unit, Dr. A. O. Ogunkoya, accompanied the committee on an extensive assessment of the affected faculties and departmental offices.

The programmes scheduled for accreditation are Nursing, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, and Physiotherapy.

The exercise was conducted in two phases, comprising a physical inspection of facilities and a comprehensive review of academic and administrative documentation.

During the assessment, the committee examined essential documents and resources that form part of the NUC accreditation requirements, including staff nominal rolls, course summaries, marking schemes, academic calendars, library holdings, laboratory equipment, departmental records, and other relevant academic resources.

The exercise also provided an opportunity for the committee to engage with faculty representatives and staff, identify areas requiring improvement, and make recommendations aimed at strengthening the College's readiness for the statutory accreditation exercise.

A follow-up mock accreditation exercise has been scheduled to hold in four weeks on Friday, 14th August 2026, to assess the level of compliance with the recommendations made during the initial visit and evaluate the progress achieved by the respective programmes.
