The Acting Vice-Chancellor (AVC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has commissioned multiple projects across the university’s campuses, reinforcing her commitment to enhancing the welfare of both students and staff.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor (AVC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has commissioned multiple projects across the university’s campuses, reinforcing her commitment to enhancing the welfare of both students and staff.

On Monday, November 10, 2025, Professor Arinze-Umobi inaugurated a renovated female hostel at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Agulu, which has been upgraded with modern facilities. She also donated over 200 gallons of disinfectants to students to support a clean and safe living environment.

At the Mbakwu premise, the AVC commissioned a solar system, functional toilet system, kitchen, and clean water facilities aimed at improving student living conditions.

At the Awka Campus, she unveiled the Unizik Microfinance Bank (UMB), inaugurated free transport services for staff, installed an iron waste bin, and commissioned CCTV cameras with monitoring stations for enhanced campus security.

In a major health initiative, Professor Arinze-Umobi commissioned a Dialysis Unit with two machines, Digital X-ray services, a Maternity Unit, and an Accident and Emergency Unit. She announced that students would receive free dialysis treatment, while staff would be charged ₦10,000 and outsiders ₦12,500, in line with directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on federal health services, significantly reducing the cost from the usual ₦60,000 charge.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Professor Sunday Nduka, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy; Professor Paul Okolie, Director of Predegree; Chief Ken Chukwurah, Chief Safety Officer; and Dr. Emmanuel Umenweke, Director of Medical Services, among others. They praised Professor Arinze-Umobi for her compassionate leadership and administrative skills, wishing her continued blessings.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the university’s principal officers and directors, including Professor Angela Ufele-Obiesie, Director of Academic Planning; Mr. Louis Njelita, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations; Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Assistant on Media and Strategy; Alex N. Anene, Esq., Deputy Bursar; and Students Union President, Comrade Chisom Samuel.
