President Tinubu to Commission College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to commission the newly established College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna later this month.
The college, licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as a private postgraduate university, aims to transform Nigeria's petroleum and energy sector through advanced research and manpower development.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) established the college to develop senior technical, managerial, and executive personnel for Nigeria's energy sector. The institution has partnered with three UK universities: University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, and University of Portsmouth, to deliver a split-site postgraduate studies program.
The college will commence with 19 academic programs across six departments and three faculties.
The college will admit its first cohort of PhD students in September 2025, with 3,702 applications received for the Split-Site PhD Programme. The partnership with UK universities will enable students to spend two years in Nigeria and one year in the UK, earning an internationally recognized certificate .
