President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
The renewal, announced in recognition of her performance, underscores continued confidence in her leadership and reform-driven administration of the institution.
Prof. Anunobi, a scholar from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has led a series of reforms since her initial appointment on September 2, 2021, focusing on modernising the National Library and repositioning it as a digital knowledge hub.
Under her leadership, the institution has developed and operationalised several digital platforms, including the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers, and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria. These initiatives have expanded nationwide access to information resources and strengthened Nigeria’s digital knowledge infrastructure.

She has also overseen renewed efforts toward the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja, alongside plans to centralise and migrate heritage collections from the institution’s 34 state branches to improve preservation and accessibility of national intellectual assets.
The Presidency noted that the renewal reflects confidence in her capacity to sustain ongoing reforms, deliver key infrastructure projects, and implement the National Library’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
Her continued leadership has been widely viewed as part of broader national efforts to strengthen knowledge systems and modernise public information management in Nigeria.
