TRCN Inducts 397 New Teachers into Profession at Adeyemi Federal University of Education

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted 397 students who successfully passed its Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) at Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo.

The induction ceremony, the fifth organised by the TRCN at the institution, was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium of the University.

The inductees comprised holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Bachelor of Arts (Education), Bachelor of Science (Education), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDE), and Master of Science (Education)/Master of Education (M.Ed.).

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, described the occasion as historic and charged the inductees to uphold professionalism at all times in their places of engagement.

The Vice-Chancellor also advised the inductees to expand their frontiers of knowledge beyond what they acquired during their training at the institution.

“You have undergone rigorous academic training in pedagogy, curriculum and classroom management, now is the time to apply it,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of digital technology in contemporary society, Prof. Popoola urged the inductees to develop digital competence as an integral part of their profession.

He also emphasised the need for teachers to make effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a complementary tool rather than viewing it as a threat to the teaching profession.

“Professional teachers promote digital literacy, not digital dependence. Your pupils and students will use AI with or without your guidance. Your responsibility is to teach them how to use AI responsibly to verify facts, question sources, recognise bias, and to understand that creativity and integrity cannot be outsourced to a machine,” he remarked.

Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the TRCN, Dr. (Mrs.) Ronke Soyombo, represented by the Director of Certification and Licensing, TRCN Abuja headquarters, Mr. Abimbola Okunola, congratulated the inductees for passing the Professional Qualifying Examination and choosing teaching as a career.

Dr. Soyombo described teaching as the “mother of all professions” and admonished the new entrants to regard teaching as a “calling rather than a job.”

She used the occasion to highlight several reforms undertaken by the Council to reposition the agency for greater efficiency.

Among the reforms is the introduction of the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme, which she said was aimed at upskilling members of the teaching profession, increasing their competence and making them globally competitive.

The TRCN Registrar/CEO further urged the inductees to pursue continuous self-improvement through participation in conferences and workshops, noting that such activities would enhance their efficiency and performance.

Earlier, the Registrar of AFUED, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, described the occasion as remarkable.

She said the ceremony marked not only the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and academic pursuit but also the beginning of a lifelong commitment to shaping minds, building character and contributing to national development through education.

Mrs. Fakorede reminded the inductees of their responsibilities to society, noting that teachers are entrusted with inspiring future generations, nurturing talents and instilling values that will guide learners throughout their lives.

The induction ceremony featured a lecture delivered by a senior academic staff member of the institution, Prof. Michael Olu Ogunboyede.

This was followed by the administration of the oath of allegiance and the presentation of certificates and licences to the inductees by the representative of the TRCN Registrar/CEO, Mr. Abimbola Okunola.

Important dignitaries present at the occasion included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, AFUED, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Representative of the Registrar/CEO, TRCN, Mr. Abimbola Okunola; Registrar, AFUED, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin; and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere, represented by Dr. S. O. Ogunniyi.

Others present were the Ondo State Coordinator, TRCN, Mr. Adesina Akande; Representative of the Dean, Faculty of Education, AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye; Dr. P. A. Akinmusere; and Coordinator, TRCN, AFUED, Mr. S. O. Omobolade.

Also in attendance were Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates, Divisions and Units of AFUED, as well as members of staff of the University from the Music Department, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Security Unit, among others.
