The 1986 Set of the defunct Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Ibadan, has commissioned legacy projects as part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of its graduation.

The projects, tagged Light Up Faculties of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, comprise the installation of solar-powered lights around the two faculties and the refurbishment of seats in the Large and Small Lecture Theatres to enhance learning, research, security and the general environment.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, in an address delivered on his behalf by the Dean, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, Professor Adejoke O. Akinyele, commended the Set for its love, loyalty and commitment to the alma mater.

He said the initiative goes beyond the commissioning of projects and represents a celebration of the enduring relationship between the University and its alumni. He noted that the solar lighting will improve illumination, security and ambience while promoting sustainable energy, while the refurbished lecture theatres will improve students’ comfort and learning experience.

Professor Adebowale said the interventions, though simple in appearance, will impact generations of students and staff, adding that the alumni have invested in people, learning and the future of the faculties. He described the gesture as an example of responsible alumni engagement and expressed hope that it would inspire other alumni sets and partners to support the University.

The Director of Alumni Relations, Professor IkeOluwa A. Lagunju, described the contribution as a significant milestone and said the strength of any university is closely linked to the strength of its alumni. She noted that adequate lighting enhances security and safety.

President of the 1986 Set, Professor Victor O. Adetimirin, said the Set wanted to make the reunion meaningful by adding value to the faculties. He recalled that the former Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry later became the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, hence the decision to extend the projects to both faculties.
