UI Staff School Celebrates Resilience and Talent at 44th Inter-House Sports Meet
The University of Ibadan Staff School reached a historic milestone as it successfully hosted its 44th Inter-House Sports Competition.
The event, held in 2026, marked the full resuscitation of the school's athletic traditions, drawing together university leadership, dedicated educators, and enthusiastic parents to celebrate the physical and character development of the pupils.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, the Director of Special Duties, Professor Olumuyiwa Omobowale, officially declared the games open. He commended the school for sustaining the momentum after reviving the event last year and urged the young athletes to embrace the "spirit of workmanship" and cooperation.
The Father of the Day, Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, shared an ambitious vision for the institution, stating that through such sporting initiatives, the UI Staff School is being "transformed and rebranded" to compete with national and global contemporaries.
Character Beyond the Classroom
Dr. Ikmat Olanrewaju Junaid, representing the Governing Board Chairperson, Professor Ifeoma Mercy Isiugo-Abanihe, emphasized that sports teach lessons no textbook can provide. She noted that by competing, pupils learn resilience, discipline, and the "generous spirit" required to cheer for others—even in defeat.
The Headteacher, Mrs. Hawau F. Adekanye, echoed these sentiments, describing the meet as a celebration of character rather than just a display of speed. She praised the 2026 Inter-house Sports Committee, led by Mrs. Yetunde O. Olasehinde, for their meticulous organization.
The vibrant ceremony featured a colorful march past, invited school relay races, and spirited competitions for parents, teachers, and alumni. High-profile guests, including the Akinrogun of Awotan Land, High Chief Hammed Adeleke, were in attendance to witness the awards and certificate presentations.
