In recognition of her transformative leadership and commitment to vocational excellence, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has named Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, as the Outstanding Rector in Nigeria for the Year 2026.

The prestigious award was presented during the 46th NAPS Senate Sitting, hosted at the Federal Polytechnic Oko. In a rare gesture of institutional respect, the student body also conferred upon Dr. Awuzie the title of Honorary Life Comrade, granting her a permanent advisory role within the national polytechnic student movement.

Delivering a welcome address under the theme "Prioritizing Local Industries in Nigeria: A Case Study of Polytechnic Education," Dr. Awuzie described polytechnics as the primary engines of Nigeria's technical capacity and industrial growth.

"It is through institutions like ours that practical skills are developed to support and sustain local industries," she asserted, urging students to propose solutions that bridge the gap between classroom theory and industrial application.

The Senate President of NAPS, Comrade Festus Oyewumi, lauded the Rector's hospitality and echoed her sentiments on the importance of technical knowledge. He argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges require the "skilled hands" that only a robust polytechnic system can provide.
