UI VC Commends American Chemical Society for Exploring Technology in Chemistry for Sustainable Development
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has commended the America Chemical Society (ACS) for exploring technology in Chemistry for sustainable development.
He gave the commendation while receiving members of the Local Organizing Committee of the society’s upcoming 11th Annual Symposium during a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Adebowale noted that the theme of the symposium: “Emerging Technologies in Chemistry for Sustainable Development” is a strategic area for discussion in view of the advent of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
He lauded ACS for its consistency, stressing that being a member of ACS was a noble achievement for scientists in the chemistry domain.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight over the selection of the University of Ibadan to host the event, assuring that the university would give necessary support to ensure the success of the Symposium.
The leader of the team, Professor Tolulope Fasina, who spoke on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, explained that the visit was to intimate the VC about the event and seek collaboration with the university.
She stated that the Symposium, which is slated to hold in February 2026, is expected to host 500 participants physically.
Professor Fasina stated that ACS Nigeria is the Nigerian affiliate of the American Chemical Society and is one of the world's largest and most influential scientific organizations, which became a chartered society in 2015.
While appreciating the university management for its support, she disclosed that the chapter is committed to advancing chemical sciences in Nigeria through research dissemination, professional development and mentoring, adding that it is open to further collaboration with the university to reinforce its position as a frontline institution in science and technology.
