TASFUED, Security Agencies Strengthen Collaboration on Campus Safety

The Management of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has intensified efforts to strengthen campus and community security through strategic engagements with four security agencies in the state, focusing on intelligence sharing, improved security infrastructure, personnel deployment and coordinated response to emerging threats.

The engagements with the Ogun State Police Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and State Security Outfit (SO-SAFE Corps) reaffirmed the university's commitment to protecting lives and property while providing a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning, research and community development.

Led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oladipo, and members of management, the visits provided opportunities to strengthen existing relationships, identify security challenges and explore practical measures to improve safety.

During a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, for the Command's prompt response to reported incidents. Prof. Oladipo stressed importance of maintaining strong operational relationship to facilitate timely communication and rapid intervention, and proposed establishment of an additional Police post in another host community while calling for improved road access around the institution.

He disclosed that the Command was taking steps to reinforce security presence around the university, including strengthening existing Police post and reviewing personnel deployment.

At the NSCDC, Ogun State Command, the delegation met with the State Commandant, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, at the Command Headquarters, Owu-Dekudu. Discussions centred on intelligence sharing, emergency response, security awareness and protection against threats such as theft, cult-related activities, drug abuse, vandalism and kidnapping.

He also disclosed plans to engage private developers to provide additional student accommodation within campus.

At Amotekun, Commandant Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (rtd.) underscored state government's commitment to protecting vulnerable groups including schools. He urged the university to expedite completion of its perimeter fence and assured continued support. Prof. Oladipo appreciated the agency's support and highlighted existing measures including collaboration with local vigilante groups, security gadgets, improved lighting and CCTV infrastructure.

At the SO-SAFE Corps headquarters, discussions with State Commander, Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, and Deputy State Commander, DCC Moruf Yusuf, focused on intelligence sharing, community participation and coordinated strategies. The engagement highlighted operational difficulties associated with difficult terrain and poorly accessible roads, emphasising need for community engagement and involvement of traditional rulers and community leaders.
