The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially invited applications from qualified candidates for admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially invited applications from qualified candidates for admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The announcement was made by the university spokesperson, Prof. Samuel Ogbemudia. The programmes include Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy across all Schools, Faculties, Institutes, and Centres of the university.

Prof. Ogbemudia highlighted the general requirements for candidates, emphasizing academic qualifications and the need for NYSC completion or exemption. He also noted that referee reports must be submitted for applications to be processed. Applicants are required to purchase application forms online, complete them accurately, and submit via the UNIBEN portal by 30th November 2025. Admission is confirmed only after payment of the non-refundable acceptance fee.

Candidates are advised to check the portal for programmes that require written entrance examinations and to use personal contact details for communication.

  1. General Admission Requirements

    • At least five (5) credits in WASC, NECO, GCE (O’Level or equivalents)
    • Four credits at Ordinary level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB, or Advanced level passes or equivalent
    • Holders of pass degrees/diplomas are not qualified for postgraduate programmes
    • Holders of 3rd class degrees must possess a PGD to be considered for Master’s programmes
    • Master’s degree holders with 55–59% weighted average score can only be considered for M.Phil. programmes initially
    • PhD applicants must have a minimum weighted average score of 60% in the Master’s degree
    • PhD applicants with Master’s from other universities may be required to complete equivalent compulsory courses at UNIBEN with at least 60%
    • Only candidates with NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate are eligible to clear into postgraduate programmes
  2. Referee Reports

    • Print referee forms from the application page, complete them, and return directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies
    • Applications will not be processed unless referee reports are available
  3. Notes

    • Check the website for courses that require written entrance examinations
    • Use personal email addresses and telephone numbers for further communication
  4. Method of Application

    • Purchase forms online with a valid VERVE or MasterCard for N22,000
    • Complete all required information accurately before submitting online
    • Print application and referee forms from the UNIBEN website
  5. Admission Procedure

    • Only admitted candidates are to pay the total non-refundable acceptance fee of N60,000
    • Acceptance fee must be paid before clearance into postgraduate programmes
