The University of Cross River State Students' Union Government (SUG) has reassured students, particularly freshers, that the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session remains scheduled and has not been cancelled.
The University of Cross River State Students' Union Government (SUG) has reassured students, particularly freshers, that the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session remains scheduled and has not been cancelled.
In an official press release, the Union clarified that preparations for the event are ongoing and that the university authorities will announce a new date in due course.
The SUG explained that the recent issuance of registration numbers to newly admitted students is a routine administrative process to facilitate timely course registration and completion of academic documentation while awaiting the formal ceremony.

Addressing concerns over financial malpractice, the Union warned students against extortionists, emphasizing that no one is authorized to demand payment for matriculation numbers or related academic privileges.
“Matriculation processes remain strictly institutional and do not require unauthorized payments,” the statement read.
Students were encouraged to report any demands for illegal fees immediately and to explore available financial aid programs, including the NELFUND application, to support their studies.
The SUG reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding students’ interests and ensuring a smooth, fair academic experience for all.
