UNILAG Launches Smart Reading Booths at Main Library

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has taken another step towards ensuring a conducive learning environment with the commissioning of 10 units of posh, smart reading booths, the Explore Seat Pods, at the Main Library.

The brief ceremony, held on Monday, August 18, 2025, was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, flanked by other members of the university management team.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the project demonstrates the university’s commitment to making the library a vibrant hub for discoveries, explorations, and continuous learning. She applauded the University Librarian, Professor Olatokunbo Okiki, and his team for their efforts in transforming the library into a 21st-century facility.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that with the reforms and continuous upgrades, the University of Lagos Library would continue to enjoy more influx of users, guaranteeing optimization of facilities, encouraging intellectual collaboration, and upholding the culture of academic excellence.

Similarly, the University Librarian, Professor Olatokunbo Okiki, described the project as an extension of the Library Maker–Space commissioned on November 14, 2023. He said the Explore Seat Pods are designed as a smart space to offer more focused and personalized experiences for learning, deep thinking, reading, exploration, and discovery.

Professor Okiki added that the new facility will foster creativity and collaboration while providing a modern space where users can study smarter, think deeper, and connect better.
