UNIMAID and PenCom Partner to Launch Pension Administration Programmes
The Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, represented by the (DVC Central Administration), Professor Babagana Bako, received a delegation from the National Pension Commission, PenCom, Abuja, on 16th December 2025, at his office in the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.
Professor Babagana Bako welcomed the delegation on behalf of the university. He described the visit as timely and important, especially in building capacity between the University of Maiduguri and PenCom. Professor Bako noted that meaningful collaboration depends on clear structures and shared commitment.
Professor Bako informed them that the university will collaborate with the University Business School in considering the introduction of diploma programmes in pension administration and regulation, with the prospect of expanding into full degree programmes in the future.
He emphasized that exposing students to pension regulation and administration will not only broaden their career options but also strengthen professional standards in the sector.
Professor Bako then assured the delegation that the University of Maiduguri is ready to support the partnership and disclosed plans to integrate pension related courses into the university’s academic offerings.
Nurudeen Garba, who led the PenCom delegation, thanked the university and praised its readiness to collaborate. He said PenCom intentionally selected the University of Maiduguri as its partner institution in the Northeast to encourage knowledge exchange and strengthen institutional capacity in the region.
He also appealed to the university to consider introducing pension-related and administrative courses into its curriculum so students can gain a solid understanding of pension regulations and administration.
Nurudeen Garba, who also thanked the university and noted that introducing pension related courses would equip students with practical knowledge of pension regulations while creating opportunities for mutual benefit between the commission and the university.
