The selection of Professor Friday Okonofua, the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, as the keynote speaker also carries historical significance, given his role in translating the founding vision into an operational academic institution.

The inaugural lecture will therefore serve both as a tribute to Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s founding vision and as a forward-looking conversation on healthcare and medical education.

It is also expected to connect UNIMED’s history with its future by promoting innovation, research, service and equitable healthcare delivery, while providing the university community with an opportunity to “honour its past, engage the present and articulate a future” consistent with its founding ideals.
