The University of Port Harcourt has disbursed ₦10 million in scholarships to 100 indigent students under the Engr. Gesi Asamaowei Scholarship Scheme as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to education and promote social responsibility.

The University of Port Harcourt has disbursed ₦10 million in scholarships to 100 indigent students under the Engr. Gesi Asamaowei Scholarship Scheme as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to education and promote social responsibility.

The scholarship programme, implemented under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, and the University Management, was awarded on Thursday, 18 December 2025.

Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 to support the payment of school fees and basic academic logistics for one academic session. The intervention is aimed at easing financial pressure on students from disadvantaged backgrounds and ensuring the continuity of their studies.

The scholarships were donated by Engr. Gesi Asamaowei, a former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, in support of indigent students and inclusive education within the institution.
