The University of Port Harcourt has announced the commencement of the sale of application forms for admission into postgraduate programmes at the Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The University of Port Harcourt has announced the commencement of the sale of application forms for admission into postgraduate programmes at the Institute of Niger Delta Studies (INDS) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to the Registrar of the University, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria O. Chindah, the programmes available for admission include:

  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Security and Intelligence Studies
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Security and Intelligence Studies
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Security and Intelligence Studies
  • Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies

Dr. Chindah explained that the Institute of Niger Delta Studies, established in June 2011, was designed to train and produce professionals equipped with analytical, conceptual, and critical thinking skills that enhance employability and career development in today’s global community.

She added that the Institute’s core aim is to build world-class professionals capable of critically examining the nature, extent, and effects of security challenges in the Niger Delta and beyond, while also addressing issues unique to marine and coastal environments, such as ocean health, conservation, and sustainable development.

Admission requirements vary by programme:

  • For the PGD in Security and Intelligence Studies, candidates must possess at least a Third Class degree or HND Upper Credit in any discipline.
  • The M.Sc. in Security and Intelligence Studies requires a minimum of a Second-Class Honours degree.
  • The PhD in Security and Intelligence Studies is open to candidates with a Master’s Degree in relevant fields such as Security Studies, Sociology, or Law, with a minimum CGPA of 3.50.
  • For the PGD in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies, applicants must hold at least a Third Class degree or HND Upper Credit.
  • The M.Sc. in Blue Economy and Maritime Studies is available to candidates with Second-Class Honours degrees in fields including Geography, Environmental Management, Economics, Animal and Environmental Biology, Plant Science and Biotechnology, Animal Science, Crop Science, Transport, Logistics, or Management Sciences.

The duration of study is set at 12 months for PGD programmes, 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time for M.Sc. programmes, and 24 months full-time or 36 months part-time for PhD programmes.

Application forms cost N25,000.00 (non-refundable) and are obtainable through payments made to the Institute of Niger Delta Studies, U&C Microfinance Bank, Account Number: 1100230081. The sale of forms will close on 15th October, 2025, while completed applications must be submitted to the Institute at Delta Park Campus, University of Port Harcourt, on or before 31st October, 2025.
