The Management of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for various teaching, non-teaching, junior, and medical staff positions.

According to Mrs. Gloria O. Chindah, PhD, Registrar of the University, the institution seeks competent professionals committed to academic excellence, effective administration, and service to humanity. She emphasized that all applications must be submitted online and only degrees and certificates awarded by government-approved institutions will be recognized.

A. Academic Staff Vacancies

i. Professor

  • Must possess outstanding and continuing scholarly achievements/publications.
  • Must have served as Reader for a minimum of three (3) years or Senior Lecturer for at least six (6) years.

ii. Associate Professor

  • Must possess outstanding and continuing scholarly achievements/publications.
  • Must have served as Senior Lecturer for a minimum of three (3) years.

iii. Senior Lecturer

  • Must possess a PhD.
  • Minimum residency of three (3) years as Lecturer I.
  • At least six (6) years of teaching experience in a university or equivalent institution.

iv. Lecturer I

  • Must possess a PhD or its equivalence.
  • Candidates without a PhD may be appointed if they have adequate teaching/professional experience and evidence or promise in research.
  • Must have served three (3) years as Lecturer II or equivalent professional experience.

v. Lecturer II

  • Must possess a PhD or its equivalence.
  • Candidates without a PhD may be appointed if they demonstrate adequate teaching/professional experience and research potential.

vi. Assistant Lecturer

  • Must possess a Master’s degree or be a Graduate Assistant with at least two (2) years teaching experience.

vii. Graduate Assistant

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second-Class Honours Upper Division or its equivalence).

viii. Assistant Librarian

  • Must possess a First Degree in Library and Information Studies or a related field.

B. Non-Teaching, SPATS & Junior Staff Vacancies

i. Deputy Bursar

  • Must be a confirmed and suitable Chief Accountant with at least 15 years cognate experience in public/private sector accounting.
  • Must have served a minimum four-year residency in a similar position.

ii. Chief Accountant

  • Must possess an Honours Degree (minimum 2:2) plus ACA or CNA, NYSC Discharge/Exemption/Exclusion Certificate, and at least 12 years cognate experience.
  • Alternatively, an HND (Upper Credit) plus NYSC and ACA/CNA with at least 12 years experience.
  • Direct appointment possible for candidates with a Master’s degree in Accounting plus ACA/CNA with at least nine years experience.

iii. Principal Assistant Registrar

  • Honours Degree (minimum 2:2), NYSC, and at least 12 years relevant experience.
  • Direct appointment: Master’s degree plus at least nine years experience.

iv. Senior Assistant Registrar

  • Honours Degree (minimum 2:2), NYSC, and at least nine years relevant experience.
  • Direct appointment: Master’s degree plus at least six years experience.

v. Principal Accountant

  • Honours Degree (minimum 2:2) in Accountancy plus NYSC and registrable with ACA/CNA, minimum nine years experience.
  • HND (Upper Credit) plus ACA/CNA, minimum nine years experience.
  • Direct appointment: Master’s degree plus six years experience.

vi. Chief Computer Programmer

  • Must have served as Assistant Chief Systems Analyst/Programmer with at least 18 years experience and four-year residency.

vii. Assistant Registrar

  • Honours Degree (2:2), NYSC, minimum six years experience; Master’s degree holders require three years.

viii. Accountant I

  • Honours Degree (2:2) in Accountancy plus ACA/CNA and three years experience.
  • HND (Upper Credit) plus ACA/CNA and three years experience.
  • Direct appointment: Master’s degree plus three years experience.

ix. Administrative Officer

  • Honours Degree (2:2) plus three years experience; Master’s degree holders have three years minimum.

x. Legal Officer I

  • LLB + BL, NYSC, NBA membership, at least three years experience.
  • Direct appointment: Master’s degree + BL plus NYSC.

xi. Technologist I

  • First School Leaving Certificate plus five credits including English in not more than two sittings.

  • FSLC plus three credits, Trade Test III, and three years experience.

  • FSLC plus three credits including English.

C. Medical Staff Vacancies

i. Medical Officer

  • Must be a Medical Doctor registered with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council.
  • NYSC, plus at least three years post-registration experience.
