JAMB Registrar Clears Air on NYSC Mobilisation for HND Graduates; Blames Illegal Admissions

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, has categorically stated that the Board is not responsible for the difficulties faced by Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates in securing NYSC mobilisation.

Addressing the recurring issue, Professor Oloyede clarified that the bottlenecks are a direct result of "illegal admissions" conducted by various polytechnics. He noted that many institutions admit students for National Diploma (ND) programmes without going through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which is the only legal and recognised platform for admissions in Nigeria.

"JAMB has no record of students who were not admitted through the proper channels," Oloyede insisted. He explained that when these students progress to HND and subsequently attempt to register for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the lack of a valid JAMB admission letter—which serves as a primary verification document—prevents their mobilisation.

The Registrar urged Rectors and heads of tertiary institutions to strictly adhere to established admission quotas and processes to avoid jeopardising the future of their students. He maintained that the Board would not "regularise" or provide cover for admissions that bypassed the statutory framework.
