The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has approved the introduction of special resit examinations for eligible students, particularly final-year and spill-over students who meet the stipulated requirements.

The decision was reached during the 438th meeting of the University Senate held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following consideration of the report of the Committee on Special Resit Examinations.

The committee had reviewed the prospects, necessity, implementation strategies and modalities for introducing special resit examinations at the university.

Under the approved arrangement, the special resit examinations will be conducted at the end of the academic session and subsequently whenever the need arises.

The examinations are specifically designed for eligible final-year and spill-over students who satisfy the conditions approved by the Senate.

According to the approved eligibility criteria, students must have registered for, attempted and failed the relevant taught courses during a regular examination to qualify for the special resit examination.

A final-year student must have failed not more than three courses to qualify, while a spill-over student must have failed not more than five courses.

The approval is expected to provide qualifying students with an additional opportunity to clear their outstanding taught courses and progress towards completing their academic programmes, subject to the approved conditions and procedures.
