Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has secured ₦758.44 million from the Federal Government’s ₦38.93 billion Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund (NARF) disbursement to public tertiary institutions.

The disbursement, announced in October 2026, covers 166 institutions 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.

According to the breakdown, universities got a total of ₦28.50 billion, polytechnics ₦5.76 billion, while colleges of education received ₦4.67 billion.

The allocation is coming at a time FUTO’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Nosike Dozie, has intensified strategic engagements with federal agencies to support the University’s development agenda.

Prof. Dozie, who assumed office as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor in June 2026, has made collaboration and institutional repositioning a key plank of his administration.

On September 30, 2026, he led the University Management on a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny S. T. Echono, in Abuja – an engagement observers say is critical given FUTO’s technological mandate and need for modern laboratories and research facilities.

Earlier in July 2026, the Vice-Chancellor also visited the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to seek intervention on the rehabilitation of FUTO’s dilapidated access road. FERMA management reportedly assured that its technical team would assess the road for possible intervention.

The University said the ₦758.44 million allocation offers an opportunity to advance its six-point strategic agenda which focuses on infrastructure, research and innovation, digital transformation, strategic partnerships and governance.
