NUC Grants Full Accreditation to FUTA MBBS and Nine Other Programmes

The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme and nine other academic programmes at the Federal University of Technology Akure, following its October/November 2025 accreditation exercise across Nigerian universities.

According to the commission, the approved programmes include MBBS, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiology, Human Anatomy, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Building, and Remote Sensing and Geoscience Information. However, Mechatronics Engineering received interim accreditation status.

The result was communicated to the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, through a letter signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, by the Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu.

The NUC noted that the accreditation exercise was conducted in line with its statutory mandate under the relevant Act, with all programmes presented by the institution achieving full status except one.

Explaining the accreditation process, the Director of Academic Planning at FUTA, Prof. Oluseyi Awodele, described accreditation as a peer-review mechanism designed to assess academic quality, ensure compliance with standards, and provide constructive recommendations for continuous improvement.

Reacting to the development, Prof. Oladiji described the outcome as a major milestone for the institution, noting that it further reinforces FUTA’s academic strength and institutional credibility.

She attributed the success to the university’s robust academic resources, both in human capital and infrastructure, particularly in the medical and engineering disciplines.

Prof. Oladiji expressed appreciation to key stakeholders, including Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deji of Akure Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, and other community leaders for their support in strengthening the university’s medical training capacity, particularly the development of its teaching hospital infrastructure.

She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining academic excellence and sustaining standards across all accredited programmes.
