Ministry Moves to End Nasarawa State University Strike

The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Tertiary and Technical Education, Hon. Mohammed Habib Nagogo, has held a strategic meeting with the Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, and the leadership of ASUU, NASU, NAAT and SSANU towards resolving the ongoing strike.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, focused on dialogue and recommendations for restoring academic activities at the University.

Hon. Nagogo said the engagement was aimed at hearing from both Management and the Unions, noting that Management had made a new offer to ASUU. He appealed to the Union to consider the offer in good faith and assured all parties of the Ministry’s commitment to a peaceful resolution.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Linkages, K’tso Nghargbu, said Management understood ASUU’s concerns and had constituted a high-powered committee to address issues surrounding the strike.

He disclosed that the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, had also made an offer to ASUU and assured that the issue of arrears would be addressed. He called for mutual understanding and collective bargaining towards a lasting resolution.

The ASUU NSUK Branch Chairman, Comrade Dr. Abdulmumini Zubairu Loko, appreciated the efforts of the Visitor, Management and other stakeholders, stating that the Union would convene Congress to consider the offer and determine its next line of action.

The Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed II, called for wisdom and continued dialogue, stressing the negative implications of prolonged industrial action on the University system.

The meeting also had contributions from other union leaders, including the Chairman of NAAT, Comrade Abdullahi Omale, who commended the stakeholders’ efforts and urged consistency in addressing issues that could lead to future strikes.

The meeting ended with positive deliberations and recommendations aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution of the dispute and restoring academic activities at NSUK.

Present were the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Damina John Ali, Directors of the Ministry, NSUK Management Team and leaders of the University unions.
