NSUK Alumni Association Condemns Mockery of PhD Graduates; Warns Members Against Self-Sabotage
The leadership of the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) Alumni Association, under Barr. Nuhu J. Egya, Notary Public, has observed with grave concern the wave of derision and thinly veiled mockery that trailed the record number of PhD graduates unveiled at the just-concluded 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary of our great institution.
Ordinarily, such a landmark academic milestone should be a collective badge of honor for every Alumnus and for Nasarawa State at large. To have produced doctoral graduates in such magnitude, within just over two decades of existence, is a testament to NSUK’s pedigree as a center of postgraduate excellence. Indeed, no state university in Northern Nigeria matches our record.
Regrettably, it is our very own graduates who have chosen to become willing foot soldiers in this campaign of calumny, lending their voices to blackmailers intent on disparaging the integrity of their alma mater. This is not criticism; it is academic self-immolation.
The NSUK Alumni Association hereby cautions all members who engage in open disparagement of our hardworking PhD graduates, whether in public discourse or across social media platforms, to desist forthwith. If you believe earning a PhD in a rigorously competitive academic environment like NSUK is a stroll in the park, we challenge you: enroll, defend a thesis, and then speak. You will quickly appreciate the years of toil, sleepless nights, and personal sacrifice embedded in that title.
Let us be guided by the wisdom of our forebears: _“He who joins outsiders to say his mother is a bad cook will eat his meals alone.”_ When you help the world spit on your own roof, do not complain when the rain soaks you. No serious community thrives by de-marketing its brightest minds.
The Association will not fold its arms while a few disgruntled voices attempt to rewrite our success story into a narrative of mediocrity. We stand firmly with every NSUK PhD holder whose scholarship has elevated the university’s standing nationally and internationally.
Going forward, we urge all Alumni to be ambassadors, not adversaries, of the brand that produced them. Let us protect the house that gave us a name, for when the foundation is ridiculed, the entire structure trembles.
