University of Jos and Military Dismiss Viral Reports of Campus Unrest as False
The Management of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), in conjunction with the Nigerian Military, has issued a formal rebuttal to a viral social media report claiming widespread unrest and the destruction of property on the university campus.
The authorities described the report, which included an image purportedly showing violence at the institution, as "false, misleading, and a malicious attempt to cause panic."
In a joint effort to reassure the public, the University Management and security agencies clarified that there has been no escalation of student grievances into chaos. While the university has recently faced administrative challenges—including the declaration of an indefinite strike by the local ASUU branch—the institution remains physically secure and calm.
The military, through its local commands, affirmed that its personnel are maintaining a peaceful environment in and around the university community. They urged members of the public to disregard the viral post, noting that the image used was unrelated to any current event at the University of Jos.
Stakeholders, students, and parents are advised to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, as security operatives continue to ensure the protection of lives and property within the campus.
